Selangor : Singapore has become the largest contributor to the influx of foreign tourists into the country.
More than 1 million of its citizens travelled to Malaysia on April 1, when border gates were opened to the tourism sector. The latest figure is expected to surpass 1 million tourists. The surge is a factor in the significant increase in foreign tourist arrivals to the country which is approaching its target of 2 million foreign tourists by 2022.
The minister of tourism, arts and culture Datuk Seri Nancy Shukry said that the increase in foreign tourists was due to the implementation of policies on compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) as well as the wider opening of economic sectors such as restaurants and hotels.
